Alma, NE

Tuesday, May 21?? (I think).   It's kind of hard to keep track of the date on the back of a bike.  For those of you who might be following this, we changed our directional plans a little the other day when the wind was blowing like crazy out of the south.  We decided to turn up Hwy 281 and go north into Nebraska instead of continuing west across Kansas.  That was good for that day only.  The winds have been blowing like crazy ever since, except from the West, Northwest.  It's become much chillier, too.  We peddled our legs sore yesterday going west on Hwy 136, but managed to do 50 miles in spite of the bad road (no shoulder, traffic, deep sand off the side of the road....and of course, the 25mph wind).  We ended up here in Alma, NE, which is a very nice, clean little town.  It has all the amenities we need.  We're camped along the resevoir here under an enclosed shelter house. Our camp hostess thought it would be best as it was threatening to storm again last night.  Lots of cloud cover again today.  We took the day off thinking maybe this storm system will have worked it's way clear over to the Eastern sea board by tomorrow.  We're forever the optimists, ya know :-)  We were sure thankful we weren't heading south toward Oklahoma and Texas this year!!  Or even toward the East as was our original route plans.
(Chris, I have attempted to enlarge the print and change the font, but it's not allowing that.  Sorry)
